Description of the problem
When a serious heating occurs in the caved waste of a production face it is important to isolate the fire zone as quickly as possible, after having evacuated the face workers to a safe position.
Foam stoppings have already proved on numerous occasions to be an effective solution to the problem of sealing off inbye gate roads as quickly as possible.

Solution
Various techniques may be used in such cases:
1. Preventive application at the roof section using a mixing gun and two flexible hoses (one for the resin and one for the catalyst), which are withdrawn to an accessible point in the case of coal face heatings. The product can be applied using a high-delivery pump connected to the in-situ hoses. It is pumped in at ground level and expands to create an airtight seal.
2. Shuttering is constructed by the rescue team and then filled to create a stopping.
3. The injection can be carried out using a borehole drilled form the surface, or from another roadway.
Applications of this type have proved very effective on numerous occasions because of :
- the speed of execution due to the product’s high expansion rate, simplicity of installation and high pump delivery capacity
- the effectiveness of the seal, which is due to the expanding product exerting pressure between the roof and the side-walls.
